Finance Minister reaching out to Albertans through pre-budget telephone town halls

Albertans from across the province will be able to share their ideas directly with the Finance Minister on how the government can improve their quality of life and build the economy.

The province-wide telephone town halls are part of the government’s ongoing pre-budget consultation process, which includes in-person meetings with a cross-section of industry stakeholders, business leaders and the non-profit sector, as well as online and written submissions.

“This is an opportunity to engage Albertans in the budget process and hear directly from them about the important issues facing their families. Through these consultations I’m hearing good ideas about how we can diversify our economy by building on our strengths, create job opportunities and protect public services during these tough economic times.”

Joe Ceci, President of Treasury Board and Minister of Finance

How it works

  • The telephone town halls will be held over two evenings: northern Alberta on Monday, September 21 and southern Alberta on Wednesday, September 23.
  • The calls run from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
  • Publicly listed telephone numbers, not on the National Do Not Call list, will be dialed and invited to participate in the call.
  • Those who want a guaranteed place on the call may register online in advance.
  • Cellphone users and other interested participants may dial into the call at 1-877-229-8493 (ID 114591) starting at 6:55 p.m. or they can also register online to be called.
  • Albertans may also listen and submit questions to the telephone town halls online.
  • The 90-minute call will be moderated. A question and answer period will follow Minister Ceci’s opening remarks.
  • No personal information will be saved or used by the Government of Alberta.

The 2015 budget will be tabled this fall.

Negotiations Update: Sessional Lecturers Economic Benefits

Dear ULFA Members,

This is to inform you that the current negotiations with the Board of Governors on Sessional Lecturers salary and benefits have reached an impasse. As a result, ULFA and the Board will be proceeding to Final Offer Selection, as per provisions of Schedule C of the Sessional Lecturers Handbook. We expect to reach a resolution in late summer and early fall, and will keep you informed as best as we can.
